Media Strategies API v1.6

#1

We are planning to release an update to the Media Strategies API on Thursday 1st June 2018.

The update includes the following changes:

1) Renaming of ‘insight’ to ‘strategy’ throughout the API

Until now the API has supported two names for media strategy tasks; ‘insight’ and ‘strategy’. This release drops support for ‘insight’.

If you have been using the name ‘insight’ for tasks you will need to switch to use ‘strategy’.

For example, when posting a task:

POST https://api.datasift.com/v1.5/pylon/linkedin/task

{
  "subscription_id": "cd99abbc812f646c77bfd8ddf767a134f0b91e84",
  "type": "strategy",
  "name": "example",
  "parameters": {
    "strategy": "top_urls",
    "version": 1,
    "parameters": { ... }
  }
}

When fetching your list of analysis tasks:
GET https://api.datasift.com/v1.5/pylon/linkedin/task/strategy

When fetching a specific task:
GET https://api.datasift.com/v1.5/pylon/linkedin/task/strategy/[task id]

The JSON returned when fetching a task will reflect the new type name also:

{
  "id": "3ce29d495068a997e9585480cb579cf7d30845b7",
  "subscription_id": "cd99abbc812f646c77bfd8ddf767a134f0b91e84",
  "name": "example",
  "type": "strategy",
  ...
}

2) Additional dimensions supported by the audience_breakdown strategy

This release adds additional dimensions for the audience_breakdown strategy:

  • skills - the skills possessed by the audie* nce analyzed.
  • occupations - the occupations of the audience analyzed.
  • metro_area - the countries of the audience analyzed.
  • country - the metro areas of the audience analyzed.

For example, to analyze the skills and occupations of the audience in the US engaging with the topic of cloud you could use the following parameters:

{
    "type": "strategy",
    "name": "example",
    "subscription_id": "cd99abbc812f646c77bfd8ddf767a134f0b91e84",
    "parameters": {
        "strategy": "audience_breakdown",
        "version": 1,
        "parameters": {
            "dimensions": ["skills", "occupations"],
            "keywords": {
                "any": ["cloud", "azure", "aws", "google cloud", "vmware"]
            },
            "audience": {
                "countries": ["united states"]
            },
            "comparison_audience": {
                "country": "united states"
            }
        }
    }
}
